10 Things you can do to help with a green holiday while at West Pitt Farm in Devon

Our policy at West Pitt  is to minimise our impact on the environment while offering high quality, comfortable accommodation in Devon’s glorious countryside.  Here are 10 things we suggest our guests might do to help with a greener holiday at West Pitt Farm in Devon.

1. Conserve energy. Please switch off lights when not required and when you go out of the cottage. Close windows and doors when the heating is on. In fine weather use the washing line to dry your washing.

2. Conserve water. At West Pitt Farm our water comes from our own borehole providing fresh spring water to all the cottages. Please remember not to leave taps running.

3. Travel by train. We can arrange a complimentary pick up and return to Tiverton Parkway Rail Station which is just a few minutes’ drive from West Pitt. There are lots of ideas for days out by train too.

4. Give the car a rest. At West Pitt Farm there is plenty to do on site with our indoor heated swimming pool, games’ room, grass tennis court, fishing, children’s play area together with walking and cycle paths nearby. Map packs are provided together with local cycle hire information.

5. Days out under an hour’s drive. Enjoy all Exeter has to offer and use the Park and Ride service. There are free red badge day tours too. Experience wonderful wildlife at Escot Park. Have fun at Crealy Park. Visit historic homes and gardens such at Knightshayes Court, Powderham Castle and Hestercombe Gardens. These are just a few of the ideas we provide for days out nearby.

6. Reduce, reuse and recyle. Use the easily accessible and clearly labelled bins to recycle items. Remember to take bags when going shopping. Let us know if have not used any linen or towels in your cottage to save washing.

7. Remember to shower before using the swimming pool. This will reduce the amount of chemicals required to keep the pool clean and reduce the amount on your skin. Remember to cover the pool following your swim; it will help to keep it warm for your next swim.

8. Follow the Countryside Code. Respect wildlife and other people enjoying the outdoors, protect the environment and wildlife by not leaving any litter, keep dogs under control and always clean up after your dog, close gates and follow paths.

9. Shop local. There are two farm shops just a few miles from West Pitt Farm offering excellent local produce. In addition, there are markets in Tiverton and Cullompton just 10 minutes away.

10. Let us know how we can improve. We welcome any ideas you may have for a greener holiday.
